Mountain-Hiking is Going Closer to God? A Black Saturday Reflection from my Chill Adventures

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth.” Psalms 121: 1-2

How should we start this blog? Let me speak my heart just today.

I wrote this blog to speak my heart. You may not care about it or perhaps may skip this reflection however, let me speak to your heart and pause for few moments.

The world today is too noisy from selfish interests and corrupted minds. My escape is go hiking to the mountains to pause for a moment from the fast-paced life and experience the slow mornings in the mountains.

Do you know that the Mountain is an important symbolism in the Bible both the Old and New Testament? Not only in the Bible but also in the history of mankind. Our human roots venerated and revered the mountains as sacred, associating them with gods or cosmic order.

No wonder why I have been drawn to go to the mountains. I think many of us are drawn to the mountains.

Hiking to the mountains is not just a hobby for me. It’s my form of reverence, a sacrifice, and a practice of faith getting closer to the Great Unknown.

With this belief, Mountains gave me Peace, Healing, Joy, and Recovery.

The sound of the wind blowing, birds chirping, rustling leaves, creaking sounds of the tree branches, and the silent cries of mother nature keeps the mountain alive. This is the kind of Peace I love, far from the sounds of cars and pollution. I think this is the reason God appears to Moses in the mountain. This kind of symphony helps you unite with the Creator.

Nature healed me emotionally, psychologically, mentally, physically. It healed me in all aspects. Every time I do hiking to the mountains, I feel happier. The excitement I usually feel a night before the hike is addicting. That quick pause from your problems, and struggles, no noise from the pressures of the modern world, it lightens up my mood.

When we are in the mountains, we only focus on one thing – how to step with utmost caution. We step one at a time. We think on how we step with caution and climb a challenging trail; we make sure to avoid accident, and we have only one goal, get to the summit and feel the joy of being on the top of the world.

The joy I experienced at the top of the mountain makes me always say, “Thank you Lord for the gift of mountains!” I felt like God is with me all the time and these mountains never fail to amaze with its beauty.

I recover and ready to fight for another day, another struggle! Problem is still there for sure but the rest it gave is better than pharmaceutical medicines. This made me always come back to feel closer to God, asking for His guidance, asking for His word to be my word, and His thoughts be my thoughts.

Jesus prayed in the mountain (Mark 1:35, Luke 22:39), taught in the mountain (Matthew 5:1-12, Luke 6:20-49), and healed the multitude in the mountain (Matthew 15:29-39). Accounts proving that mountains are very important in our lives even Jesus proved it. We must protect them at all costs. It gave us everything we need spiritually and physically.

This I say that mountain hiking is going closer to God!
