Chill Adventures in Guimaras: Sweet Mangoes, Sun, and Hidden Island Gems

โ€œIt is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live.”
– Marcus Aurelius –

Have you ever wondered if youโ€™re truly living life to the fullest? One of my biggest fears is leaving this world without experiencing the most breathtaking wonders that nature has to offer.

After a memorable hike on the Aklan-Antique Traverse, I decided to extend my adventure with a quick island escapeโ€”Guimaras Island, home of the sweetest mangoes in the Philippines and some of the most serene beaches you can imagine.

Getting to Guimaras: A Chill Adventure Begins

Since I didnโ€™t have any personal contacts, I found a local guide on Facebookโ€”Kuya Dan from Guimaras Tour Pageโ€”and booked a quick tour. After a four-hour land trip from Antique, I arrived at Iloilo Main Bus Terminal around 11:30 AM.

Where the serenity of small islands meets the endless sky.

From there, I rode a jeep to Parola Wharf, then took a ferry to Jordan Wharf, Guimaras. The ferry ride was shortโ€”just 20โ€“25 minutesโ€”and cost only 20 pesos! Perfect for budget-friendly travelers looking for adventure.

Top Stops During the Manggahan Festival

Hereโ€™s a peek at my whirlwind 3-day adventure in Guimaras:

1. The Smallest Plaza in the Philippines

A quaint stop featuring the statue of Dr. Jose Rizal, the national hero. Itโ€™s a tiny but meaningful way to connect with Philippine history.

2. Guimaras Wind Farm

This iconic landmark shows the islandโ€™s push for sustainable energy through a private-government partnership. Summer heat was intense, so we didnโ€™t lingerโ€”but the views of rolling turbines against the blue sky were unforgettable.

3. Man-Made Forest

Smaller than Boholโ€™s famous forest, yet walking under rows of tall trees offered a peaceful escape from the heat. A hidden oasis perfect for photos and fresh air.

4. Pitstop for Mango Pizza

Guimaras is famous for mangoes, so of course I had to try the islandโ€™s unique mango pizza! Sweet, savory, and slightly weirdโ€”but a fun culinary experience that captured the local flavor.

5. Mango Plantation

We skipped a full visit due to time constraints, but seeing endless mango trees reminded me why Guimaras is known as the mango capital of the Philippines.

6. Trappist Monastery

A serene, spiritual stop for reflection and prayer. The church is well-maintained and welcoming to visitors seeking peace or a moment of connection.

7. Guisi Lighthouse

The second oldest lighthouse in the Philippines, Guisi Lighthouse stands as a testament to Guimarasโ€™ rich maritime history. Despite enduring storms and earthquakes, it continues to guide marinersโ€”a historical gem worth exploring.

8. Alubihod Beach Area

My final stop and home base for two nights. From here, I went island hopping, exploring nearby beaches and enjoying crystal-clear waters sponsored by a close friend Estoya from Antique. A perfect way to unwind and soak in the islandโ€™s chill vibes.

Why Guimaras Is a Must-Visit

Even after 3 days and 2 nights, Guimaras left me craving more. Its mix of history, nature, and local flavors makes it perfect for short escapes or longer adventures. From sweet mangoes to serene beaches, thereโ€™s something for every traveler craving sun, sea, and chill island vibes.
